LP Recs: the Rec-oning

Mostly just “hey this LP’s been put in the archive”, but there are a few new ones.

King of Dragon Pass

Haifisch’s playthrough of KoDP, featuring the curse of the dread god Arenjee, Bland King Pentrest, and badass old magic guys, has been archived! Go read it, it’s pretty rad.

Magicka

Skippy Granola and friends blow each other to smithereensplay Magicka co-op! The interactions between the players (and the yelling when someone causes a TPK because of a spell cast by the party…) are the primary source of humor. Also, there’s nothing funny about Reddit. :v

Touhou 10-13

Tysm plays through Touhous 10 through 13… on Lunatic! The most recent update is of Subterranean Animism’s stage 5, and he shows no signs of losing steam.

9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors

999, as LPed by Dragonatrix! It’s a very good screenshot LP; so far it’s mostly been lead by goonvote, but Dragonatrix has said that they’ll be taking over the reins after either this run or the next.

Suikoden V

Vilkacis is back with another Suikoden LP! :v This time, we act like overprotective older siblings and have totally non-violent political struggles. hahahahahahahahaaaa no

*check Dangan Ronpa LP thread*

*see goons talking about a shitstorm going on because the paywall went up for a bit*

*die laughing at the butthurt weeaboo quotes*

My amusement at the situation aside: The LP forum’s behind a paywall until sometime in November, so my SA links in the LP Rec posts won’t work for a bit unless you are a goon! The LP Archive links are fine, though, and unless something happens you should be able to read archived LPs.

LP Sharing!

Slightly belated, but better late than never. Lotta narrative LPs here.

Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World

This LP by wdarkk takes a really terrible sequel and makes it bearable to watch (mostly by ripping it apart). Good LP with good writing; it’s in a narrative style, should that not be your cup of tea, but I’d say it’s worth a read anyway. wdarkk also has a ToS LP!

Avalon Code

Avalon Code: A Guide to Wasting Good Ideas is a narrative LP by Didja Redo; he basically rewrites significant portions of the game so that they’re much less terrible, while also showing off what the original game was like. Very worth a read; he makes an aggressively mediocre game absolutely engrossing. He has also played through Gazillionare Deluxe and Riviera: The Promised Land with similar levels of quality. Note that Avalon Code is much more on the dramatic side of things than Gazillionare Deluxe or Riviera.

Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth

Niggurath plays through a game with a lot of potential in this video LP of a horror game that tries to be a FPS and a stealth game. He links to a bunch of Lovecraft stories in his posts and the thread contains a decent amount of discussion of Lovecraft’s work as a whole in addition to the Cthulhu Mythos. Don’t watch if you get motion sickness easily.

MeccaPrime’s BS Zelda LP

In which MeccaPrime plays through both of the Sattelaview Zelda games! Well, that’s the plan anyway; he’s playing through BS Zelda no Densetsu, and if all goes well he’ll also play through Ancient Stone Tablets, the other Satellaview Zelda game. \o/ He also has a lot of other LPs in the Archives, including Metroid Fusion, Link’s Awakening, and the Oracle games; check them out!

LP Sharing II: LP harder

Today is mostly a day of older LPs! So LP Archive stuff mostly.

Princess Maker 2

Princess Maker 2 is a raising sim; you basically guide a little girl to adulthood. It’s made by Gainax, so. Yeah. Thankfully, SynthOrange takes the “ridiculous as fuck” route and runs with it, and it’s a damn good LP.

Nakar’s Ultima LPs

Ultima is an old-school RPG, centering around a person called the Avatar, who is supposed to be a pillar of virtue. Nakar is having none of that and instead introduces us to a woman named Steve, who is really bad at this whole “pillar of virtue” thing. He covers the main series games from Ultima 4 to Ultima 7: Serpent Isles, and also plays through Martian Dreams, which is loosely connected to the main series. It’s both funny and informative, and while the LPs are at their best from Ultima 6 on it’s still worth reading through 4 and 5, and not just because they set up the world.

Chorocojo’s Pokemon LPs

Pokemon is a series of games about ten-year-olds capturing wild animals and pitting them against each other in fights, basically. Chorocojo, formerly known as RedChocobo, plays through Emerald, LeafGreen, and Platinum, explaining the world and adding some great narrative and art along the way. Incidentally, he and OrangeFluffySheep are doing a Black/White (respectively) LP! OFS is doing a super-technical playthrough where he is at the mercy of the whims of the thread, and Chorocojo’s probably doing his usual thing, although he hasn’t posted yet so I can’t tell.

Final Fantasy Tactics

Speaking of Orange Fluffy Sheep, here’s his Final Fantasy Tactics LP! FFT is… hard for me to explain; it’s pretty heavy in politics. Very cool game, don’t get me wrong, I just have problems describing it and it’s entirely on my end. OFS breaks the game over his knee while giving a lovely rundown of the story. I also suggest his The World Ends With You LP. Seriously. Note that while it’s finished it hasn’t been archived yet, so there’s not much time left to read it!

Legacy of Kain

The Legacy of Kain series is about a vampire with a very nice voice and a dead ghosty guy who also has a nice voice. Joudas plays through all of the games save for Blood Omen II, and mostly lets the games stand on their own, which is good in this case! It’s a well-done LP and I love rereading it.

I have decreed that today is “share my favorite LPs” day

SO HERE HAVE A LIST OF SOME OF MY FAVORITE LPs

some are finished, some are not. Some are on baldurk’s archive, some are not. :v I WILL NOTE THE FORMER but the latter you can just look at the url

El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron

El Shaddai is a trippy as fuck game based on the Book of Enoch to… varying degrees. There’s only two updates so far, but I strongly recommend reading the thread anyway since the OP has given all the religion nerds free reign to blather on about it, and there’s already been some interesting information posted! Plus OP doesn’t blather over the cutscenes like some LPers.

Pheonix Wright: Ace Attorney

Anime Court fans, assemble! Hello Winter’s been doing a great job with the LP so far; the thread’s just nearing the end of the second case, but a lot of things like wrong decisions and extra stuff is being shown off, and the thread has a bunch of interesting discussion (like Humorous Court Documents where the judge has very clearly just had enough of the court’s stupidity).

Exit Fate

Exit Fate is an amazing RPG made entirely by one guy, SCF (who posted in the thread! With stuff! And it’s rad!). It’s inspired partially by the Suikoden series, so there’s TONS AND TONS OF CHARACTERS. The thread’s finished but not yet archived, so catch it while you can. The LP’s really great and shows off a bunch of things, including bonus bosses and extra dialogue. Also, hilarious fanart and lots of Royston. :v

Fedule’s Fire Emblem LPs

Fire Emblem is a SRPG series infamous for its permadeath mechanic and high difficulty. Fedule has LPed both of the Tellius games (Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn, the former of which is widely considered one of if not the best in the series), and done so very well. They’re informative LPs, but they have enough of a sense of humor to them to keep from being boring. Also, there are some very unusual God Units in both LPs…

…Actually, I’d suggest reading all of the Fire Emblem LPs on Something Awful and the LP Archive. Cake Attack’s Thracia 776 (The Bullshit One) LP is finished (but not yet on the LP Archive) and very, very good (MARTY PARTY 2012), Wind God Sety is in the middle of doing Genealogy of the Holy War (The Incest One), Artix74 has done Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword (The First English One) and had it archived and is in the middle of doing Sword of Seals and and and augh fe feels.

Dangan Ronpa

Dangan Ronpa is, in the words of Orenronen, a cross between Battle Royale and Ace Attorney. Oren is translating the game as he goes since it was never released in English, so updates take a bit, but they’re very worth the wait. Just… click the question mark link at the the bottom left of Oren’s first post. Some people are dicks who can’t stop spoiling things (also the thread got creepy and had to be locked a few times). Also the thread is 436 pages long at the time of this writing if you don’t, and something like 80% of that is useless natter/JUNKOS. Also: I’m not saying it’s Junkos, but JUNKOS.

okay i think that is enough textwalling for today ENJOY THESE FINE LPs i will try to remember to do these again next week
